Every time someone asked me what kind of person I would want to share my life with or asked me what I love the most about my friends, I always said that I want someone who never lets the child in me die. Honestly, that’s what I treasure the most about people, with whom I can simply exist as I am, without being told to “act like an adult” or “behave a certain way”. I’ve realised how important it is to hold on to those childlike parts of ourselves, and to surround ourselves with people who don’t pressure us to let them go, because no matter how much we grow, earn, mature or become stable, there is a part of us that still needs healing. A part that wants freedom, laughter, and the ability to just be without thinking too much and that part is our inner child.
I remember in school, my English teacher told me something that I didn’t understand then, but value a lot today. She said there is a difference between being childish and being childlike. While being childish implies being immature, childlike implies innocence and enthusiasm. You can be a mature, responsible adult who makes the right decisions, is not childish and still choose to be childlike. You can still have that spark, that playful energy, that innocence of joy which children carry so beautifully. Adulthood strengthens you, but the child in you heals you, and if you ask me, I say both are equally important!
Somewhere between responsibilities and expectations, we slowly let go of the things that actually keep us alive. We do so much for the future that we forget to do a few things simply for ourselves. And the day we lose that childlike spark, life starts becoming monotonous, almost robotic. That is not how life is meant to be lived.
I have always loved kids. Spending time with them, listening to their wild stories, watching the way they dream with no boundaries. Every time I sit with my little cousins and have the most random conversations, something inside me lifts. There is so much positivity in that tiny bubble of innocence, mainly because for them, the world is limitless, their dreams are limitless, they don’t think about who will judge them or what might stop them, they just believe. And as we grow up, that ‘belief’ is the first thing we lose. Opinions surround us, expectations shape us, and eventually fear holds us back. As a consequence, without even realising it, we slowly start losing ourselves.
But isn’t it important that even as adults, we keep that nature alive? That part of us that thinks the world is still limitless. Because if not that, then what will push us to try new things? What will give us the courage to start again? What will make us take chances that can change our life? Once life gets busy and careers become stable, we forget to consciously do these things. We stop doing things without purpose. We stop being spontaneous. But maybe we shouldn’t. Maybe this is where the child in us should stay, to remind us that life is not just meant to be lived by days passing, but by the life we add to those days.

Another thing I realise often is how simple love was when we were kids. We never hesitated to say sorry or thank you, even if it was a hundred times. Love felt pure and uncomplicated, but as we grow up, everything becomes layered; love becomes so “calculated”. Ego steps in, expression becomes an effort, affection becomes something we measure. Yet when I look at children and how easily they love, I feel that even as adults, this kind of purity should stay in us.
So this blog is just a small reminder from me to you. At every step of adulthood, make sure you remain a child too. Let the mature, responsible version of you handle life, but let the child in you make life beautiful. Do the things that make you smile for no reason, keep that spark alive and spread that energy wherever you go. Hope everyone enjoys growing old with their adult versions as much as they enjoyed growing up with their child versions!
HAPPY CHILDRENS DAY ❤️
