What is Feminism?

Feminism is a social movement and ideology that fights for the political, economic and social rights for women. Feminists believe that men and women are equal, and women deserve the same rights as  men in society. The feminist movement has fought for many different causes, such as the right for women to vote, the right to work and the right to live free from violence.

You are a feminist? Oh My God...why do you hate men?” This is the line people throw at you when you say you are a feminist. We are in  a world where apparently “feminism” is synonymous to male-hating, men-bashing, and female-superiority. This shocks me because it is not what feminism really means.

Feminism does not support undermining men, it supports a world where both men and women receive equal opportunities. Misunderstanding this word has evidently caused many people--both men and women--to hate it and stir away from it.No where does it indicate women should be superior, or that women should hate men. It stands against societal norms and structures where men are considered above women. It does not support any kind of notion about how all men are the same or that they are all sexist. As for the ‘feminists’ who do hate men, they are better understood as ‘feminazis’.Feminazis who claim women are better than men comprise the far extreme of feminism.

Feminism at its core is about equality of men and women, not “sameness.” So many people offer up the argument that women are not the “same” as men so there can’t be equality. In other words, because their bodies are different (many say “weaker” and smaller), and because men and women have different physical capabilities, these physical differences mean equality is not possible.Men and women need not be same physically to get their rights equally!

To sum it up, Feminism is justice, equality and liberty for women!

The Art of Giving.

From as far back as I can remember, the value of giving has been a part of my life. My father and grandfather shaped my understanding of what it means to live with purpose and how that purpose stems from the art of giving. They didn’t explain it in complicated words, nor did they ever frame it as a duty. Instead, through their own lives and their choices, they taught me something profound: what you have; whether it is time, kindness, wisdom, or love , It finds its true meaning only when you share it with others. For them, giving was not about wealth or possessions. It was about presence, care, and generosity .  I grew up watching them extend themselves for people, sometimes in small ways and sometimes in life changing ways . And slowly, almost unconsciously, this way of living became a part of me. As I grew older, however, I noticed something unsettling. In today’s world, the act of giving is often misunderstood. People who extend themselves for others are sometimes labeled as p...

Honestly, who are we to fight the Alchemy?

Since my childhood I have always wanted to achieve big things in life but have always messed them up despite giving my 100 percent. My whole life was filled with scenes which screamed “So close, yet so far” .  I tried my hands on multiple things due to various reasons but one thing I knew was -My heart was the happiest while doing one thing - managing and leading people, but I wasn’t brave enough to take that path, nor was I aware of the options and hence explored multiple opportunities.  I have been made fun of and called out as “fickle-minded” a lot of times but only I knew no matter what I did, I gave it my all - let it be preparing for GATE in my pre-final years or for GRE in my final year , but none of them were giving me the peace nor happiness I wanted and when I sat down and asked my heart what I actually wanted, what excited  me, it knew , it always knew ; it has always been this- do something in Management and 2 years back right after my graduation I finally mad...

Happy Nurses Day Amma 🤍

Happy Nurses Day Amma! You are a superhero. It's been almost 25 years since you took up this profession and you were always a mother, a mother filling belief, confidence in every patient struggling their battles, a mother protecting, nursing her patients as her own.  The world was shaken by the pandemic but you came forward and menaced your life doing your duty with utmost attention, care. Your commitment, enthusiasm, concern about your work never fail to inspire me. Though I don't say this often, you inspire me a lot, from being independent to finding passion in a profession you are someone I always look up to. This rampant rife challenged you, going to work during this COVID-19 pandemic has placed frontline workers under immense and unprecedented pressure, putting their physical, mental, and social well-being at risk and yet you were selfless and asked us to stay at village till the outbreak of the virus settles so that we wouldn't be affected by it in the city.  During t...
